Since the world is currently in an economic recession, I decided to research what styles of music were popular during The Great Depression, and what lyrical topics were on the minds of artists and music listeners of that period. I found after some digging, that much of the hits in the late 1920s through early 1940s were either extraordinarily depressing or euphorically silly. So, I styled several songs (including The Haunting, A Perfect World, The Mad Mad March Hare, and Glass) to reflect this phenomenon. I used some vintage jazz flavors, threw in some of my hallmark melancholy, and tossed it with sweetly sarcastic humour.
In fact, the song Avuncular is titled after a word I discovered in an Agatha Christie murder mystery (Poirot: The Mystery Of the Blue Train) which is set in the 1930s.
In true vintage fashion, I have even styled my CD cover artwork after the 1930s painting genre of Art Deco. It took hours and hours to draw, but I am quite pleased with how it came out. (BTW, drawing artwork with a track ball mouse is thoroughly annoying!) Please leave comments and let me know what you think (o:
